The coin weighs 7.95 grams, marginally underweight which is quite common for a coin of this age. Minted in 22 carat gold (916.7 fineness) this seldom-seen Sovereign coin is suitable for collectors and investors alike.
Often referred to as 'shield back' due to the decoration on the reverse, these coins were minted in coin alignment rather than the common modern medal alignment. This means that the two sides of the coin appear to be 180 degrees out of alignment when the coin is rotated. This is not a minting error.
